A12 nr 342 möter A31 Largest chapter
The Stockholm chapter has about 1000 members, of whom 150 are involved in the operation of Djurgårdslinjen (the Djurgården Line), a museum tramway in Stockholm. As a member of the Stockholm chapter, you have the chance to nurture your interest in public transport in every imaginable way -- you can be as active as you like; you can maintain vehicles or help run them; you can do research or writing. And, of course, spend time with others who share your interests.

Djurgårdslinjen The Museum Line
Djurgårdslinjen opened on 2 June 1991. It is 3.2 km long, and runs between Norrmalmstorg and Waldemarsudde on the island of Djurgården. The tramway runs weekends most of the year, as well as weekdays during the summer. The tracks and catenary are owned by the Stockholm Museum Tramway Foundation, founded by the City of Stockholm and the Stockholm County Council. The service is operated by Stockholm Tramway Company, which is owned by the Stockholm chapter of the Swedish Tramway Society.

The Fleet
Our fleet of tramcars includes some cars from cities other than Stockholm. Stockholm cars from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s share the rails with our 1940s trams from Göteborg (Gothenburg) and the elegant "Mustang" lent to us by Tekniska Museet (the Technical Museum) in Malmö. We also have a party car, used for popular charter service, and a special café tram that has made quite a hit! Our depot can hold 14 cars, and is always full, of both operating trams and cars being renovated.

Supplemental service
Over two million journeys have been made on Djurgårdslinjen since service began in 1991. During the summer, Djurgårdslinjen carries about 25% of those who travel by land-based public transport to Djurgården. From time to time, Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL - Stockholm Local Transport) purchases supplemental service from us, to and from Djurgården. Our one-day record is 11,000 passengers.

Success
the Tram in the centre What is responsible for the success of Djurgårdslinjen? Probably a combination of nostalgia, better comfort than the parallel bus service can offer, and the commitment of our members, who provide better service to passengers. In addition, our museum tramcars have the other advantages common to all tramways: they are environmentally sound, have a high capacity, and just get you there quicker! The Stockholm chapter travels on excursions, short study trips, and longer trips abroad. We have members' nights with films and lectures. At our depot on Djurgården, there is plenty of room for information meetings, training and relaxation.

Publications
We publish historical monographs in a series called Tramways in Stockholm We also publish our own membership newsletter for discussion and information.

The Junior Section
Our very active Junior Section has its own planned activities, and is also constructing a model tramway on which the cars are driven with a real tram controller!
